Malin Substation Phase 1

Malin Substation Capacitor Bank Installation Phase 1

  • $1,352,000
  • PacifiCorp

Cougar Construction was the general contractor on this project. The scope of phase 1 included all site grading activities such as 3,800 cy topsoil removal, 15,700 cy excavation cut, 15,800 cy structural fill import, 2,300 cy base rock, perimeter and personnel fence, main ground grid installation w/ fence connections, and new asphalt overlay for entire access road.

Malin Substation Phase 2

Malin-phase-2

  • $1,615,812
  • Subcontractor to Christenson Electric

Cougar Construction teamed up with Christenson Electric to complete this high profile project on time. Cougar Construction’s responsibilities included all foundations (control house w/ footing & stem walls, 46 augured foundations with a 4’ diameter in depth from 12’ to 15’, six slab foundations for circuit breakers, and 3 capacitor bank foundations with 392 cy of concrete & over 80,000 lbs of rebar in each). We also installed all conduits, grounding tails for all structures and equipment, concrete encased ductbank between existing yards, and approximately 1100 lineal feet of trenwa precast cable trench. Over 400’ of this cable trench was installed in the existing 500kV energized yard, so the excavation was performed with a hydrovac trenching method. Also included was 800 cy of road finish rock and 1,200 cy of yard finish rock.

Cougar Construction was the general contractor for this project for PacifiCorp. This 150,000 sf site included over 5000 cy of topsoil removal, 15,600 cy of structural fill, 12,700 cy of base rock (existing soil required a minimum 2’ section of base rock over entire site), 1,800 cy of yard finish rock and 1,100 cy of road finish rock. There were 93 augured foundations at 3’ diameter and 12’ to 15’ deep. There were 9 dead-end foundations with sizes up to 7’ diameter and 40’ deep. Other foundations included circuit breaker foundations, control house footing and stemwall and a XFMR foundation 6’ thick with concrete oil containment floor and walls. Also in the scope was all conduit and cable trench installation, vaults, ground grid, French drain system, steel pole embeds and rigid bus with wire jumpers. Long term erosion control measures included a rip-rap armor on all fill slopes along with a detention pond with rip-rap finish.

Houston Lake Substation

Houston Lake Substation

  • $862,881
  • PacifiCorp

Cougar Construction was called upon by PacifiCorp to fast track this project. The new Facebook data center in Prineville was in need of large amount of power and PacifiCorp was to provide a new switchyard for the data center. Cougar mobilized immediately to begin the foundations, 69 of which were drilled pier type up to a size of 4.5’ diameter and 16’ deep through solid rock. Along with the pier foundations were slab on grade foundations for breakers, control house, generator and propane tanks. Fencing, grounding, conduits, cable trench & finish rock completed the scope. The majority of this work was completed within a 6 week window as requested by PacifiCorp.
